Janet Gathers is a 34 year old lover of health and fitness, that has recently relocated to Tampa, FL from Nashville, TN where she and her husband lived for 11 years.
Janet’s fitness journey began in 2010 when she decided to get serious about getting healthy. She had battled with her weight since the age of 8 when she began using food to cope with her parents divorce. Janet “yo-yo” dieted for many years experimenting with restrictive eating and diet pills. In 2010, when a short sprint after her pup nearly made her collapse at the top of their steps of their Nashville home, she realized enough was enough. She had the health problems of someone who had lived a whole life already and was only in her 20’s. Janet had problems with her bladder, thyroid, borderline diabetes, borderline high blood pressure, anxiety and depression to name a few.
Janet decided that this time would be different. This time she wasn’t focused on just losing weight or looking like the models in the magazines. This time Janet was looking to create life long habits that she could use and improve upon for years to come.
Between 2010 and 2011 Janet lost 100 lbs that she vowed to NEVER “FIND” AGAIN. As she learned to be a more healthy person, other things in her life also began to “lean” themselves out as well. Among the handful of things that began to fall away in her life, one stood out tall. She began to notice that her teenage dream of being a Human Resource Manager (which she currently was), didn’t align with her new purpose in life. Not that she knew at that time what her purpose was anyways… but what she did know is that HR wasn’t it. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but things just weren’t right. Eventually her husband realized what her purpose was and it wasn’t served in an office. He joking said “You should quit your job and become a Personal Trainer. I know people that are waiting on you to do it!”
The Universe has a funny way of working things out for us. In the weeks to come, things at work went DOWNHILL FAST. And before you knew it, Janet was a Certified Personal Trainer, working fulltime helping women of all ages accomplish their health goals.
Since that time Janet has also become a Certified Yoga Instructor and has led classes with a Church, Youth Male Detention Center, Senior Center and the Women’s Domestic Violence Shelter to name a few. Janet has found that although she loves training people, yoga has become her passion. Yoga can be done by anyone, from athletes to the disabled. And it helps people on so many levels, whether it be physically, mentally or spiritually. Yoga meets you where you are and works with you at that place. Janet believes that if you surrender to the practice of yoga, it will lead you to achieve balance in all facets of your life.
